Hempstead 2017 Easter Program - April 17, 2017
On Sunday, April 17, 2017, The Sunday School Department program presented their Easter Program named “Three Rusty Nails.” The program began with a rendition from the choir. They cheerfully sang - “Hosanna, Hosanna.” The play began right after and the first scene was about a beggar asking for alms. He cried out to Jesus for help as soon as he heard him approaching. He did not give up, even though the crowd tried to stop him. Jesus miraculously healed him and he received his sight. Glory be to God! After this, Jesus rode into Jerusalem and the crowd followed Him. Shortly after, Jesus took three of his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus urged them to pray with him for an hour, however, the disciples fell asleep even after Jesus woke them up a few times. Next, Jesus was arrested and led away by the roman solders to Pilate. He was accused of blasphemy and they pleaded with Pilate to put Him to death. Although Pilate found him innocent and did not find any reason to crucify Jesus, he feared the crowd and allowed them to decide His fate.
Jesus was led to be crucified. The “Three Rusty Nails” were driven through his hands, fastening him to the cross where he was crucified between two criminals. One of them ridiculed Jesus by asking why He couldn’t save Himself as the Son of God. But the other rebuked and reminded him that Jesus had done nothing wrong and did not deserve to die. He asked Jesus to remember him when he gets to His kingdom. Of course, the merciful Savior did and told him that he would be with Him in paradise that very day. What a joy and peace to know that we have a Savior who is always ready to hear our cry and deliver us when we call upon Him!
The younger kids recited bible verses from Isaiah 53:3-6. One of the familiar verses in this chapter is a well-known scripture, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed.” We as Christians reflect on his verse for healing and any kind of deliverance today!
There was a solo rendition of “He could have called ten thousand angels.” This song is a good reminder of Jesus’ love towards mankind, by choosing to die on the cross, even though He could have called ten thousand angels or more had He wanted to. Jesus realized that if He were to display His great power at that time, the world would be lost and without a Savior. It was out of love He cried out, “It is finished” and gave up the ghost. It was also out of love that Jesus, on the third day arose from the grave. He then showed himself to Mary and the other disciples.
The play ended with the repentance of one of the roman soldiers who crucified Jesus. Also, the man who sold the “Three Rusty Nails” to the roman solder felt remorseful. He even asked to buy the nails back from the soldiers during the play, but it was too late! He regretted being a part of nailing Jesus to the cross. Other people believed in Jesus as well and were converted. The program concluded with a song from the choir, “He Arose, He Arose.” Thank God that Jesus arose from the grave, as we now have the hope of resurrection. An altar call was made and many made their way to the altar and poured their hearts to the Lord.
